Tito Residence Villa Galeb

Visit the exclusive residence of President Tito

The Villa Galeb in Igalo was built on the site of the medical institute "Dr. Simo Miloševic" in record time of only 6 months for the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito in the year 1976. Tito has resides in the Villa four times during official visits.

Public access to the villa was not allowed many years. Now, the most interesting parts of the property were opened for visitors. This includes the private rooms of President Tito and his wife Jovanka, party- and working rooms as well as the modern spa center. Also the shelter can be visited.

The Villa Galeb has an area of 5,500 square meters and its park covers an area of 70,000 square meters.

17. September 1991

After Tito's death in 1980, the villa was only one more time used officially: On 17.09.1991 under direction of peacemaker Lord Carrington the presidents of Serbia, Slobodan Miloševic and Croatia, Franjo Tuđman as well as the general of the Yugoslav People's Army, Veljo Kadijević met at Tito's fireplace in Villa Galeb.

This meeting was to prevent a slide of Yugoslavia in the war and to maintain peace. The last futile attempt.
