A whole new way to discover and enjoy Montenegro
The Belgrade-Bar railway line is one of the most spectacular railway lines in Europe. On a length of 455 kilometers, it leads through 254 tunnels and 435 bridges. At the station in a Bar we board the completely refurbished and air-conditioned train and drive along the coast to Sutomore. Passing the Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans, we go towards Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.
Now the train winds the way along the river Morača and climbs continuously up (from 3 m above sea level in Bar to 103 0m above sea level in Kolašin). Here we cross the highest railway bridge in Europe, the "Mala Rijeka Viaduct" (500 meters long - 200 meters high).
The highest station of the route is Kolašin, a well-known health resort and winter sports center of Montenegro. There we leave the train and we go to the national park Biogradska Gora for lunch.
Now we go by bus through the Morača canyon, which we have recently seen even from the "bird's eye view" of the moving train. At the narrowest and lowest point you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view (photo stop).
On the way towards Podgorica, we visit the Morača monastery which was built in 1252. Then we pass the capital and the mountains and we go back to the coast.
